Shinnyo-en Foundation is Proud to be the World Sponsor for the 22nd Annual National Service-Learning Conference
April 6 – 9, 2011 participants from all over the globe will descend upon Atlanta, GA, for the most comprehensive service-learning and professional development conference in the world! This year National Service-Learning Conference (NSLC) will bring together over 2,200 youth and adult service-learning practitioners from around the globe as the largest intergeneration gathering in the service-learning movement. Convened annually by National Youth Leadership Council (www.nylc.org), NSLC offers nationally recognized speakers and numerous high-quality workshops on best practices, current research and related policy.
NSLC will engage local, national and global issues impacting academic achievement and student leadership and surely inspire new ideas.
In addition to partnering with National Youth Leadership Council to support NSLC for the seventh year in a row, Shinnyo-en Foundation also sponsors the Indigenous Service-Learning Forum and the Service-Learning World Forum.
The goal of the Indigenous Service-Learning Forum is to bring people from diverse tribal nations, communities, clans, families, schools and organizations to learn about one another’s traditions and values of service. Additionally, Service-Learning World Forum will engage attendees in an exploration of service learning as a force for building peace, improving education and strengthening communities across cultures and beyond national boundaries. This interactive forum will include a focus on mobilizing youth and will feature a Gathering of Global Elders.
This year Shinnyo-en Foundation looks forward to hosting three workshops presented by our former Shinnyo Fellows and current program partners, Nan Peterson from The Blake School of Minneapolis, Jody Kennedy from Eastview Middle School of White Plains and Steve Herrera from Diocese of San Jose.
With all of the exciting activities that are bound to ensue, we are most excited to sponsor the participation of nine Shinnyo-en Young Adults (SYA) from Canada, Germany, Singapore and the United States. We hope that NSLC will provide them with an exhilarating opportunity to learn more about service-learning from emerging and experienced leaders.
