“Responding to hatred or anger with more of the same only
increases and prolongs our own suffering. How we react when
we’re upset is entirely up to us.”

Shinnyo Fellows Program

Students from leading universities across the country are invited to join the Shinnyo-en Foundation’s peace initiative, Six Billion Paths to Peace (www. sixbillionpaths.org). The Fellows will bring alive the Six Billion Paths to Peace initiative on their campuses as they put forth their service or peacebuilding projects in local, national and global communities.

In Buddhism, “Shinnyo” is defined as the fundamental nature of all things. It refers to a truth that is unchanging and everlasting, such as sincerity, loving kindness, and compassion.

We hope that Shinnyo Fellows will discover that goodness exists within themselves, and they will also encourage and sustain the positive human qualities (i.e., compassion) regardless of any circumstance and condition to create harmony and peace.

What?

The Shinnyo Fellows will receive year-long stipends to develop individual student leadership and reflective skills, and introduce, implement  and/or institutionalize the Six Billion Paths to Peace project on their university campuses. The Fellows will design and pilot their own service or peacebuilding projects in the Fellows’ chosen areas with the support of faculty or a staff advisor on campus.

Who?

Undergraduate and graduate students from diverse disciplines and backgrounds, who are deeply committed  to their act of service for peacebuilding.

More Information!

The on-campus “partners” of the Fellows Program (e.g., an existing project, program, or department at the university) will also receive financial support to administer the Fellows Program. In addition, the Shinnyo-en Foundation will offer regular support and coaching to the Fellows that are both conducted via phone, video conferencing and through in-person visits.
